Just what does the RMA do for the Museum?

With our membership dues, our fundraisers, and donations, we help the Museum acquire new important artifacts, preserve and conserve items in the existing collections, and put together new exhibits. We also help provide the materials and performers used for the various well-known education programs and labs the Museum offers.  We have funded the repair and cleaning of numerous pieces in the collections such as the Rancho Jurupa Plat Map circa 1869 and Harada/Teshima Flag which was on display during the “I Want the Wide American Earth” exhibit. We have acquired, for the Museum, some very rare and beautiful citrus labels to add to their collection and a collection of photographs of Riverside’s first mayor from private collectors. As one of the “First Twenty” we made a substantial donation towards the purchase of the Robinson House which is being turned into an Interpretative Center for the Harada House.

Our volunteers docent both the downtown Museum site and Heritage House. They assist at the Heritage House, operate the Museum’s gift shop, participate in special events and school programs, and lead Museum tours. All volunteers interact with Museum guests and provide general information about the Museum’s exhibits and programs to the public.

We assist in seeking grants for Museum exhibits, projects, collections, and house preservation, using our nonprofit status to expand the grant resources available to the Museum.

Our Multicultural Council takes care of the cultural aspect of the Museum through the presentation of programs and events that showcase the rich diversity of the region’s populace. For an in-depth introduction to the MCC see their page.

Our Trip and Lecture groups provide informative trips and lecturers to showcase local and regional history. These activities are part of being a member of the RMA.
